{Tiffany & Gerry}…Wedding

Tears trickled down my cheek as I witness the overflow of love, care, and joy that Tiffany and Gerry shared with their most intimate family and friends. Standing at the tip of the Belmont Harbor with the beautiful Windy City as their background, the couple intertwined their fingers and made their vows to each other as wind gently blew through the venue. Tiffany and Gerry, thank you both so much for allowing us to witness and experience what true, simple, deep, and caring love looks like. We feel so blessed to have been a part of your important day!

Thank you both for a beautiful afternoon and we wish you the very very best! Keep peddling!

Best,

Carol & Tiem

{Rivka & Dave}…engagement

This post is long long overdue so I’m going to dive right in! Rivka and Dave were a blast to shoot and we cannot wait for their Ann Arbor wedding next summer! We strolled and pranced around Lincoln Park and visited Oz Park where Dave took some time to catch up on his fantasy football league. It was such a fun time being able to be a part of such easy going yet all encompassing love and admiration they had for each other.

Work it, Riv, you’re a natural!

Happy Engagement, Riv and Dave! See y’all in June! Thanks for the great times!

Best,

Carol and Tiem

Sneak Peek: {Jayme & Gary}…wedding

And I saddle up my horse
And I ride into the city
I make a lot of noise
Cause the girls
They are so pretty
Riding up and down Broadway
On my old stud Leroy
And the girls say
Save a horse, ride a cowboy.
Everybody says
Save a horse, Ride a cowboy

{Michele & Adam}…wedding

Michele and Adam…what two fabulous looking people! We had the honor to capture their special day this past August at the brand new Wit Hotel in Downtown Chicago. What’s even doubly fun was that their wedding was the VERY FIRST wedding that The Wit hosted.

Michele and Adam, you guys are just two amazing amazing people who really know how to have a party! Thank you both so much for the opportunity to work with you on this special day. We loved every moment of it and it was just absolutely beautiful.

Ceremony/Reception/Catering/Cupcakes: The Wit Hotel
Hair and Makeup: Beauty and Colors
Videography: Obvious Child Productions
Florals: Elaine at Bella Flora Chicago

Oh and I almost forgot to mention – our technologically savvy couple read their vows from their respective iphones! How cool and up to date is that?!

Michele and Adam, you guys are gorgeous and so wonderful. Thank you again!

The Invitation

Recently I was introduced to this beautiful poem by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, a Canadian teacher/writer. The poem spelled out what rang in my heart as a true embodiment of unconditional lifelong companionship, unconditional love, and acceptance. I took this to heart and am trying to embody it every day with Tiem as I watch him pack granola bars in my shoot sack, fill my water bottle, and whisper in my ear if my knees are okay after standing for hours on end at a reception. I hope you all enjoy this as well:

“The Invitation”

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon…
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Exciting news!

We joined many awesomely talented photographers on Scott Kelby’s World-Wide Photowalk in downtown historic Chicago loop on July 18, 2009. Tiem and I were not expecting much at all from the walk besides getting to know and learn from some of the kindest, most talented photographers Chicagoland had to offer. So it was a shock and humbling experience when we learned today from our walk leader that one of the two images we submitted would be the winning image from our particular walking group (there are hundreds of groups around the world). It is truly humbling for me especially because I had told Tiem that I did not feel comfortable even giving that image the time of day. Tiem liked it so much he convinced me to just submit it. “ugh” I grunted in reluctant agreement because there was something about that image that I just did not see. But we are always our own harshest critic.

It’s honestly the most humbling experience because even after all these years, I always felt like other photographers always had that UMPH that we always strived to achieve in our images and there will always be photographers wayyyy more talented and wayyy more skilled than us. We are honored, Chicago photographers, to even be considered. Thank you for all the love, support, and knowledge. We will never cease to continue learning from everyone who has touched our lives and shown us such immense talent and knowledge.
